How To Build Great Links For Your Web Site

October 25th, 2009 adsense tips No comments

Building effective links is one of the most time consuming and challenging aspects of web site design. Ultimately, link building can spell the difference between a high search engine ranking web page and one that disappears in a sea of similar web sites, so it is best to take the time to do it right.

There are certainly newer search engine algorithms being developed for the web but effective linking continues to be the most decisive factor in search engine optimization and will likely be for several years more.

Links as the name implies, are the most basic connectors to all the pages on the Interent and is the easiest way for a given application to gauge the relevance and integrity of a web page.

People love lists; find a way to integrate a list into your site. This can be anything from a list of tips or things to avoid or a list suggested reading, for example. Lists give the impression of being a definitive source of information and many people will want to link to them.

Often people will link to a site if they feel that it is an authority on a given subject; they will then feel confident about recommending that site to other people. That is what link building is all about after all, a sort of digital referral or stamp of approval.

Every web site should strive to have reliable and well-researched content. Try to keep your content informative but simple; if no one can understand what your web site says they probably won’t want to link to it! Check your text for spelling or grammatical errors; a web site riddled with poor spelling and bad sentence construction doesn’t seem very professional or authoritative.

Online news sites are a good way to establish links. Some of the things you can do are: submit an article for online publication or syndicate an article with a news site. Reputable sites usually enjoy a high search engine rank for their articles and receive plenty of traffic. You may also send press releases or trade articles with other sites…or even write an article about another site and ask then to link back to your site; most will be happy to repay the favor.

Establish contacts with the Better Business Bureau or the Chamber of Commerce in your area or the relevant city and state government offices. You may even look around closer to home by submitting your link to the local library or exchanging links with local businesses in your area; even non-competing businesses in the same field.

Consider starting an affiliate program; it may not lead directly to high SEO value but it can still prove useful in providing additional links.

Submit your site to directories that allow free submissions such as DMOZ (http://dmoz.org) or even paid directories. You can even take this a step further by creating your own directory of similar web sites. You can obviously link to your own site here and even include other important pages in addition to the home page. Quality listings are important here so if it is a useful directory to the most number of people, it will easily attract links.

You may want to post a link to your site in classifieds sites such as Craigslist or if you belong to user groups like Yahoo and Google groups it is often acceptable to post links to your site if you are asking or answering a question. Just make sure it is in the context of the discussion, as most people do not take kindly to being spammed.

Reviews are another great way to get people to link to your site. If you have a reputable looking site and carry informative, well-written reviews, there’s a good chance that your articles will receive high search engine rankings. Try to keep your reviews on-topic, informative and thorough, and be specific whenever possible.

Blogging has become an integral part of the Internet and is one of the most effective means of linking; you can either drop a few words of comment on someone’s blog or link to them from your own blog. Most blogs will be happy to link back to you. Try to update your blog regularly and post interesting content so people will want to link to you.

If your budget permits, explore the possibility of hiring a professional web-linking publicist (yes they do exist!) or consultant for your web site. If you choose carefully this will free you up to take care of other areas of your web site and leave the details of link building to the experts.

Those are a few things to do to create good links, what about things you should avoid? These methods will actually hurt your visibility on the web as it may cause search engines to ban your site or ignore it altogether!

Do not spam forums! Nobody likes a spammer and can usually tell if someone joins a discussion forum for the sole purpose of self-promotion. A sure way to annoy people is to post a non-relevant reply to a question and then include a link…or worse not even answer the question at all!

Choose carefully when submitting your site to directory services; a poor one won’t help increase your traffic at all and may carry out-of-date or off topic links.

When asking someone to link to your site, make sure that there is a good reason why he should; maybe your site is similar to his own in subject matter or your site showcases him, his products or his web site in a favorable light.

Take the time to compose a polite, well written personal request for linking. It doesn’t have to be long but the important thing is to make it seem like a genuine request as opposed to an impersonal, automated email. Do not pester a Webmaster with several, persistent emails; it is annoying and will not likely help your cause any. If you don’t get a reply, move on.

Writing And Blogging For Your Business

October 25th, 2009 adsense tips No comments

Do yourself a favor. If you rely solely on your listings in the search engines to generate business, stop right now. Why? Because putting all your marketing dollars into a channel you can’t hope to control, is a fool’s game at best.

Just ask the myriad of businesses – large, small and medium – that woke up last week to discover their sites had suffered a substantial drop (or had disappeared altogether) in Google’s page results. You can almost hear their shrieks of protest, and their howls of “WHY ME!”

Of course, this happens every time Google makes a change to its algorithm. And each time it makes me wonder why some people (and I’m including serious marketing people with big budgets here) just never learn this basic truth: you cannot produce results if you live solely in a search engine’s virtual vacuum.

Google and other search engines should never be relied upon to generate consistent traffic to your website. They should never be relied upon to generate sales. If you want your business to succeed in the long term, you need to invest in a solid, strategic, well-rounded marketing strategy.

Unfortunately, there are too many businesses out there that are indifferent to marketing in other channels, let alone know how to use online and offline channels to create a competitive advantage.

So, as a reminder to everyone who thinks they can put all their marketing eggs in one basket and still succeed, here are some fundamentals:

Product:

Are you sure your product is the best it can be? Is it better than your competitors? Does it provide something valuable to your potential customers? If you can’t answer “yes’ to these three questions and clarify your answer, you need to go back to the drawing board and set some objectives.

Price:

Whether it’s a good thing or bad, the Internet means that customers can shop around for the best deal from the comfort of their armchair. As a business owner, you can complain and moan, but it won’t help you sell any more products. Make sure you offer the best deal and that your price is competitive, but don’t get caught up in price alone – there are other ways to convince consumers to buy from you.

Place:

Go ahead and put a billboard up in the middle of the Nevada desert. Use it to announce your latest product launch. Then sit back and enjoy the peace and quiet. That’s what you’re doing if you expect your website (and the search engines) to generate sales for you. A better way is to identify other marketing channels to promote your products.

Promotion:

What’s your offer? Why should consumers buy from you? If you know your customers and know your product, you’ll already have the answers. Look at using incentives that appeal to your target audience and complement your product. Consider direct mail, print, media and public relations and make sure you spend enough to deliver impact. The money you spend on promotion whether online of offline is an investment in the long-term success of your company.

Of course, following the above guidelines does not guarantee success, but they should at least encourage you think about and diversify your marketing efforts instead of relying on the whims of a search engine.

To do a cell phone lookup or extract information from unlisted numbers, visit: reverse cell phone lookup. reverse cell phone lookup provide you with information on almost any cell phone number or any other number that you need to know the identity of. Web Site Marketing For StupidWebsite Promotion Marketing Works

October 24th, 2009 adsense tips No comments

When you are getting ready to launch your website, it is important think about how you will be promoting it. While there are many companies and businesses on the web that would love to do your website promotion and marketing for you, you need to remember that your best shot at finding a good one is understanding a little bit of how it works yourself.

When it comes to getting traffic to your website that is likely to stay there and give you is business, one key technique to use is search engine optimisation. Search engine optimization has two great benefits when it comes to website promotion and marketing. The first is that it takes advantage of the fact that people are actively searching for your services. One reason that people are so annoyed by spam is that they are pulled from whatever their frame of mind was before they opened the e-mail and then they had to delete it. When people are using search engines, however, they are already in a frame of mind where finding your website is the big goal. The second advantage is that getting picked up by a search engine costs nothing; all you have to do is make your site attractive to search engines, and you’ll be able get hits every time your site comes on up the search page.

Website promotion can take many forms, and some of them are simple and casual. For instance, if you regularly post to a well-populated forum, put the URL of your website in your signature. This serves several purposes. You’ll be giving your website more publicity every time you post and you are also providing your site with what is called a one way link. A one way link is a link to your website that does not have your website reciprocating with a link back. This counts towards your popularity and attractiveness when it comes to search engines as well.

Putting information out there free of cost is another way that website promotion works. We live in a very fast, information-rich era, and whenever people search the internet, they are usually looking for information, whether that’s on the Italian Renaissance or where the best restaurants in the area are. When you do things like post articles to online article directories or put up a glossary of terms related to your industry, you are giving people information, making yourself more attractive to the search engines and getting a reputation as an expert, something that will grant you a bit of credibility and name recognition.

Another way that website promotion works is through pay per click advertising. With pay per click advertising, you will pay a company every time someone clicks on an ad to get to your site. Your ad will go up for free and you don’t pay until there is traffic coming through it. While this is an impressive deal and a good way to get traffic to your web page, be aware that some companies will hire people to click your ads.

Knowing how website promotion works is an important part of learning how best to market your site. Make sure that the marketing techniques that you use are suited to your site and that the traffic that you get actually stays there and browses!

Understanding SEO

October 24th, 2009 adsense tips No comments

To build your Internet marketing success for your home business you must understand search engines and how their optimization helps you grow your online business traffic. Search engine optimization (SEO)is a strong part of your Internet marketing plan. Here is what it’s all about.

The Internet, your number one home business source for marketing, is made up of hundreds of millions of Web pages at this point. Most consumers, in order to find the pages on the topics they need turn to search engines. These search engines are designed to help consumers find their way to other relevant sites.

While each search engine has its own way of working, there are three key tasks that all perform. Whether the search engine is MSN, Google, Ask.Com, Yahoo or one of the myriad of other search engines out there, it searches the Internet based on various key words. It then keeps its own index of the words that it finds and where it has found them. The third common activity of these search engines is to allow any consumer to search through these words or word combinations that are stored in the search engine’s index.

When the first search engines were introduced, and before home business and its Internet and affiliate marketing was as prominent as they are today, a search engine might have to handle as many as two thousand consumer inquiries daily. Now the top 10 search engines typically each have an index that holds many hundreds of millions of Web pages. Each must respond to several million daily search queries.

What’s important here, to the new home business owner who needs to accomplish some productive Internet marketing, is that her or his business Web site is found often and easily and towards the top of the returns on these search engines when a consumer conducts a query. Search engine optimization and smart affiliate marketing are the tools to make this happen.

There are two key elements to a home business Web site being found on a major search engine. The Internet marketing ploy here is two-pronged. The home business owner must choose the right key words to place on the site, and those words must be located in the right place on the page. Important places for important words are titles, subtitles and the first paragraph of the landing page.

To understand home business Internet marketing through search engine optimization you must understand meta tags.

What these helpful little Internet marketing buddies do is let the page owner specify chosen key concepts and words under which he or she wants the page and site to be indexed. The best way this helps the home business’ Internet marketing strategy is by clarifying words for which there are multiple meanings. The problem with meta tags, and one which a good search engine spider will resolve, is that an unscrupulous, fraudulent or careless site owner can place meta tags of popular keywords to bring consumers to his or her site when the site has little if anything to do with the keyword.

Obviously nothing is perfect or fraud-free, but SEO is still one of the best means for Internet marketing and affiliate marketing your home business.

What Makes An Authority Site

October 23rd, 2009 adsense tips No comments

You should know that over the last year Internet marketing has evolved and the new online business model involves Authority sites taking the place of spam sites. This is making for happy search engines as they do not like sending traffic to sites that merely scrap content and add nothing unique.

What is an Authority site? Why should it matter to you? Well Authority sites are sites that provide an abundance of high quality unique content and are linked to or referenced by other quality websites within the same niche.

When you are searching for topic specific information, where do you find it? Is it bookmarked within you favorites folder? Isn’t that where you keep Authority sites you have found in the past? If you are thinking of creating an Authority site you should be aiming to have a content rich site that will land you in the favorites folder of many visitors.

There are thousands of spam sites that have gone up with only the intent of getting you to click on one of the ad-sense ads you will find there. Sites like this do not offer anything unique and are great examples of sites with content scraped from others. You probably took one look and clicked quickly away. Who could blame you?

An Authority site on the other hand is not one that you will quickly click away from. It will suck you in with its unique content and style. Inviting you to take another look and thirsty for more.

An Authority site will have pages of unique content that is topic relevant. Authority sites will have content that is current and keeps visitors coming back to stay abreast of what is happening in the field. The visitors will spend additional time reading and learning to find answers to questions they were not even aware of.

Authority sites are a doorway to additional unique content for your field of interest. They will offer links to information on other sites that have content which is relevant to the topic. As an example an Authority website that focuses on dogs would have pages of links to relevant off site information. Perhaps that dealt with training or breeds. Providing the links to off site and relevant information is a sign of a website that is more focused on providing relevant resources to visitors than it is on keeping those visitors within its own website.

Out going links do not hurt Authority sites, they make those Authority sites a better resource for the web community.

Authority websites are interested in forming ongoing relationships with visitors more than anything. They are interested in giving quality content and a valuable resource for the web communities’ use.

To that end Authority websites generate well written content that is focused and topic relevant. They have conversations with visitors through the information they supply and let their personality show in their writings. That provides readers with in insight to their convictions. It shows the website is willing to do the research needed to provide visitors with quality content and coverage of topical trends. This is how sites become Authority destinations.

To create an Authority site you should find a niche that you know something about. Being knowledgeable on the topic will help when you are creating content for your website. You will also need to keep current on the changes going on within your niche so sign up for RSS feeds and Google alerts on the topics within your niche. These free resources will keep you up to date.

Always put visitors first and keep in mind that you are creating a site that will answer your visitors’ questions while providing valuable content. Be credible while creating a site you can be proud of.

Webmasters Are Obsessing Over Page Rank

October 23rd, 2009 adsense tips No comments

Page Rank was started to help internet users understand which page is relevant and important in a search, normally the higher the page rank the better search position you will have on Google. Page Rank is a number form 1-10 which Google gives each web page so internet users know the importance and the Google search engine knows how to position the page on the search engine results. Google thinks the page is on the web. Many people who have a website are looking at the best ways of increasing their Google page rank. An important fact to remember is that Page Rank is calculated on a webpage by webpage basis not on a website by website basis.

To other website owners your page rank may be a source of envy. Given that the internet has grown so rapidly over the past decade, the competition for the best search engine position has created an enormous market focused on how best to position a website for better rankings on Google, Yahoo and other prominent search engines.

Search engines will rank your page higher than one with less links back to it. The formula to increasing your page rank is quite easy, but you will have to work to get it.

1. Join a reciprocal link exchange program, some are free some cost money. Try to get at least 30-50 exchange per week.

2. Write article and distribute them to as many article sites as possible or join a program that will distribute for you. Write at least 4-5 article per month.

3. Submit your links to as many web directories as possible. Submit to 30-50 per week.

4. If you are selling a product create an affiliate program where others sell your product. They will place the links their sites and they will point back to your site, another one way link.

Links that are pointing to your site are very important in the page rank system, each link is counted as a vote to your website, if you receive votes with high pr that will you’re your pr, more links the more votes the better the ranking in the search engine results.

PR does not depend on the quality of site but it is the criteria which measures the value of a web page only. Many webmaster put a lot of emphasis on page rank, and most of the time they will not link their site with a site that has a page rank that is lower than their own in the fear it will drop their page rank. When you link your site to another website that means you vote for it. To get your PR rating up it is essential to have a significant number of good quality links to your site.

So how do you attract traffic the natural way. Sadly, most of this traffic is not qualified. The most difficult challenge most web designers face is getting traffic to your site. If you do not have a large advertising budget, traffic exchanges can be an effective way to advertise your site for free. Traffic exchanges, sometimes known as surfing sites, can bring a steady stream of visitors to your website, for no payment – very important for a business startup if you want to make money online from home.

Most people believe that the higher your Google Page Rank, the higher you’ll be in the search results listing. Yes pages and or sites with a higher page rank seem to rank better than those sites that do not have a page rank, but don’t be fooled the site without a page rank might have a higher ranking but Google has not updated its page rank on the tool bar, Google usually updates 4 times a year. The only thought on most peoples minds if they own a website is how do increase traffic and how do I get a higher page rank.

The Truth About Optimization – 6 Common SEO Myths Debunked

October 23rd, 2009 adsense tips No comments

Gaining good positioning with the search engines is one channel for increasing your online business — but it’s not an end in itself. Your ultimate goal isn’t higher traffic, but higher sales, and thereby, profits. Will Reynolds of SEO consulting firm http://ThinkSeer.com, sheds some light on common misconceptions regarding search engine optimization:

Myth Number One: I have to submit my site to the engines to get ranked.

Truth: The search engines have advanced to the point that they’ll find you on their own. You’re wasting money by paying a service to submit your name to the engines.

Myth Number Two: I need to optimize for ALL the engines.

Truth: There are only three search engines that matter: Google, Yahoo!, and MSN — in that order. Google is by far the most important in terms of driving traffic. Nearly every other search engine feeds off one of these three, so if you do well in any of them, you’ll show up in the other engines as well.

Myth Number Three: If I use pay-per-click ads, I don’t have to worry about natural rankings.

Truth: Up to seventy-five percent of users don’t even consider clicking paid ads, so if you rely solely on pay-per-click for your business, you’re losing out on a huge section of the market.

Myth Number Four: My goal should be to rank well for all related keywords.

Truth: Certain words and phrases produce better results than others. You need to look at your keyword ROI and conversion rates, not just your rankings. Says Reynolds, “I’ve seen sites rank highly for terms that result in no conversions. That ranking might be getting you some exposure, but it’s not getting you sales.” Analyze your keyword campaigns so you can see what your expenditures are doing for your bottom line.

Myth Number Five: My web design doesn’t affect my positioning.

Truth: Your web architecture has a tremendous impact on the search engines’ ability to read your site’s content and, therefore, on your rankings. For instance, Google assigns the most importance to your homepage. If you have a flash intro, the search engines can’t read it — they see a blank page. If there’s no Skip Intro button that allows the search engines to get past that, the rest of your site’s content may not even get indexed. Bringing in a consultant to work with your web developer may help you avoid navigation and structural pitfalls that make your web site difficult for the engines to read.

Myth Number Six: Increasing my traffic will automatically increase my conversions.

Truth: Your web site must be user friendly as well as search engine friendly. Advises Reynolds, “Don’t butcher your site for the engines, in terms of the verbiage or text size. It won’t read well or connect with your customers. If you don’t look credible, people aren’t going to feel comfortable purchasing on your site or giving you their information online.” You may rise in rankings, but it will cost you in conversions.

Increasing your web site’s visitors through search engine optimization is important for your E-Biz — and it’s equally important to make sure your site’s structure, design, and navigation are conducive to converting those visitors when they land.

Some people make hundreds of thousands of dollars per year, from providing excellent content through their blogs. Search engines love blogs, I mean really love them. It is said in many SEO forums that Google staff are great bloggers and subsequently Google spiders and indexes blogs more frequently that normal web sites. This may just be a rumour, but I have found it to be true in my case. If you blog every day there’s a good chance Google and the other major search engines will spider your blog every day looking for that new content. I have seen blog postings get spidered and indexed and ranking well in as little as 30 minutes. It seems the blog RSS feeds go straight into the search engines’ data centres. Go to Google and do a search on Blue Nike Sneakers and you will see what I mean.
